The Provincial Grand Master, Right Worshipful Brother David Charles Purdie, joined the brethren of the Sincerity Lodge of Mark Master Masons 35 in Plymouth recently for a celebration meeting. He was accompanied by a number of Grand and Provincial Grand Officers, including Right Worshipful Brother John P. Clendinning, Past Grand Junior Warden and Past Deputy Provincial Grand Master, and Worshipful Brother Robert Palmer, Grand Steward and the Provincial Grand Secretary.

The first item of the evening was to celebrate a new member joining the degree, with a wonderful Advancement ceremony carried out by the Worshipful Master, Worshipful Brother Roger Galloway, and his officers, who were assisted by members of the Devon Mark Support Team. The new Candidate, Brother Paul Legg was advanced accordingly, with excellent renditions of the Signs and Secrets by Worshipful Brother Gilson Rowe and the in conclusion by Worshipful Brother Russell Dearing.

The next labour of the evening was to celebrate 50 years of dedicated service to the degree of Mark Masonry by Worshipful Brother Trevor Wyatt, Past Grand Junior Deacon.

The Provincial Grand Master sat down at the front of the Lodge with Trevor and discussed his early life and career with him, including his time as a lecturer at various academic establishments in the Plymouth area. Trevor is married and has two children, a son and a daughter, and the family remains close. Trevor has many happy memories of family holidays in the St. Ives area, and they still enjoy meeting up there today. He enjoys playing golf, although not as often as he used to.

Trevor was advanced into the Sincerity Lodge of Mark Master Masons 35 in Plymouth on the 3rd of May 1976, and he became the Worshipful Master of the Lodge in 1985. He also joined the Lodge of St George, of Mark Master Masons 383, which also meets in Plymouth, and became its Worshipful Master in 2002. Trevor received his first Provincial appointment in 1988 as Provincial Grand Treasurer and was later promoted to the rank of Past Provincial Grand Registrar in 2015.  Trevor was the Treasurer in Sincerity Lodge for many years, and for a few years in the Lodge of St George. He still actively attends both lodges, serving as the Registrar of Marks in Sincerity Lodge and the Chaplain in the Lodge of St George.

Trevor was invested as a Grand Steward in 2002 and as an Active Grand Junior Deacon in 2008.  He has held the Grand Rank of Past Grand Junior Deacon since 2009.

Worshipful Brother Robert Palmer then read the celebration certificate received from Mark Grand Lodge, followed by the Provincial citation to celebrate Trevor’s fifty years as a Mark Master Mason in the Province, both of which were duly presented to him by the Provincial Grand Master. The Provincial Grand Master also presented Trevor with a special Provincial Mark token in recognition of his achievements.

  

Following the meeting, the brethren all joined together for a harmonious festive board, celebrating long service whilst welcoming those at the commencement of their journey.
