Worshipful Brother Adam Revitt, the Worshipful Master and Charity Steward of the Holsworthy Mark Lodge 1727 visited the Langdon Hospital recently to present some charitable donations to the hospital. The initial donation from the Holsworthy Mark lodge for £250, was matched by the Devon Mark Charity Association with one for the same amount.

The cheques totalling £500 were presented to the Occupational Therapy Technician, Mr Alex Watkins, has helped to bring new life into a therapeutic conservation initiative at Langdon. The funds will be used to create a water recovery and storage system, as part of the expanding conservation project. This a nature-based programme supporting patient rehabilitation, mental well-being, whilst also supporting individuals with skills for life after Langdon.

Led by Alex, the project is transforming previously unused farmland into a dedicated therapeutic space. Originally focused on restoring a neglected Devon hedgerow, the initiative has grown to include:

• Planting over 500 trees and creating an entirely new hedgerow
• Establishing a wildflower meadow
• Reviving a once-lost orchard, now with newly planted apple trees
• Building a dead hedge habitat for wildlife
• Installing wildlife cameras to monitor and share animal activity
• Creating opportunities for individuals to build furniture and learn practical skills.

Alex said that “The funding we have received is going to make a real difference to the work we do with patients and in the development of our project. We are going to use the money to purchase water harvesting materials, so we can make the most of natural resources and learn some construction skills. The equipment will have a long-lasting impact and we can't wait to get started”.
