The brethren of North Devon Union Mark Lodge 540 undertook their first advancement ceremony for a couple of years in Ilfracombe recently. The Worshipful Master, Worshipful Brother Roy Almond, advanced their newest member, Brother Mark Bendon, in an excellent ceremony. He was supported by his excellent team of officers, including his Wardens, Worshipful Brothers Ian Pollock and Malcolm Yeo, together with Worshipful Brother Julian Turner, not only the Lodge Director of Ceremonies, but also the current Provincial Junior Warden.

During the evening, it was reported that Worshipful brother Malcolm, who is suffering from pulmonary fibrosis, has recently completed a walk around the Wistlandpound reservoir on Exmoor, to raise funds for charity. The brethren of the lodge were fully supportive of this effort, with the proceeds of the evening which totalled £250, being donated to his cause. He has now raised an amazing £1500 as a result.

Brother Mark, their newest member, said afterwards that he thoroughly enjoyed his evening and eagerly looks forward to receiving his Provincial tie, which each new candidate who is advanced within Devonshire, receives as a gift from the Province.
