The Provincial Grand Master, Right Worshipful Brother David Charles Purdie, presided at the recent installation ceremony of the Unit Mark Lodge 783 in Crediton. He was accompanied by a wonderful number of Grand and Provincial Grand Officers including Worshipful Brother Brett Varker, the Assistant Provincial Grand Master, Very Worshipful Brother Ron Smerdon, Past Grand Junior Overseer, Worshipful Brother Dennis Challis, Grand Steward and Worshipful Brother Christopher Elliott, the Provincial Secretary.
They were also joined by the three Provincial Overseers, namely Worshipful Brothers Nigel Frude the Master Overseer, David Richards the Senior Overseer, and Dr Alan Howlett the Junior Overseer.
The main business of the evening was for Worshipful Brother Phil Eakers to install his successor, which he did in a sincere and heartfelt manner. The new Worshipful Master, Worshipful Brother Allan Stanistreet, then went on to appoint and invest his officers, including many brothers in progressive offices.
During the remaining business, another candidate for advancement was proposed, leaving the new Master with 2 ceremonies coming up. Proof that this lodge is continuing to thrive.
Following the meeting, more than 50 brethren joined the Master at his festive board which was full of fun, and humour whilst remaining sincere during the words spoken in many of the toasts. The Worshipful Master thanked all the brethren present for making it such a special evening, and he pointed out that, due to many varying circumstances over the years, it had only taken him 29 years to reach the chair. He also thanked the Province for their support, to not only this lodge, but also to all Mark and Mariner lodges across Devonshire.
The Provincial Grand Master, during his response to his toast, was pleased to announce his Provincial Grand Wardens for the forthcoming year. Both brethren were present and received a round of applause at the news.
It was also an opportunity for the brethren from the Ashburton Mark Lodge who were visitors that evening, to join their Immediate Past Master, and now the Senior Warden Elect, Worshipful Brother Barry Purdy, along with Worshipful Brother Robert Hendy, the Junior Warden Elect.
