The Assistant Provincial Grand Master, Worshipful Brother Brett Varker joined the members of the Devonshire Lodge of Installed Commanders 1750 recently for their installation ceremony.

After opening the lodge, the Worshipful Commander, Worshipful Brother Maurice Huck, welcomed the distinguished guests, accompanied by the acting Director of Ceremonies for the evening, Worshipful Brother Paul Trewin.

The first item of business was the sad moment of reflection that was called for with prayer to remember Very Worshipful Brother Bill Clemens who had sadly died that afternoon. Bill was surrounded by his wife Sandra and his family as he commenced his journey to the Grand Lodge above.

The Assistant Provincial Grand Master declined to accept the proffering of the Sceptre of the Lodge, but in fine form was delighted to accept a cheque of £250 to Devon Mark Charity Association.

After thanking the lodge for giving him the honour of being their Worshipful Commander, he proceeded to install Worshipful Brother John Betts in a very sincere and confident manner. Worshipful Brother Betts invested his officers in an equally confident manner and then went on to present Worshipful Brother Varker with a further cheque for the Provincial Grand Masters Personal Fund, which was again gratefully received.

Following the closing of the lodge the brethren proceeded to the refectory to partake in a delicious festive board, great company and brief speeches. Present during the meeting were several notable distinguished guests including Worshipful Brother Gary Peard Prov.R.A.M.G.R., Head of the Royal and Select Masters of Devon and Cornwall. Gary says he can always be identified by being the one with his eyes closed in pictures. Joining him were Worshipful Brother Nic White R.A.M.G.R., Head of the Red Cross of Constantine of Devon and Cornwall, and Worshipful Brother Bill Daw R.A.M.G.R., Worshipful Master of the Grand Stewards Mark Lodge.
