The Devonshire Mark Weekend took place recently at the Livermead Cliff Hotel in Torquay. The Provincial Grand Master, Right Worshipful Brother David Purdie, was joined at this prestigious annual event by many brethren, together with their wives, partners and friends. Those who attended enjoyed several social events throughout the weekend, as well as participating in the two fabulous dining events each evening.

The event commenced on the Friday afternoon as the brethren gathered in the hotel reception room and bar, to enjoy the reunion of friends and the fun and laughter as they recalled events since they last met.

On the Friday evening, the guests sat down in a relaxed informal atmosphere for the evening dinner and dance, and were entertained by a local band, Eclipse.

On the Saturday Morning, whilst some made their way into Torquay itself, some ventured into the beautiful village of Cockington and to the Drum Inn, to sample some of the local beverages on offer, whilst walking through the wonderful scenery.

In the Afternoon, the annual quiz took place, which was this year hosted by Worshipful Brother Mark Rodd, in which 18 teams entered and enjoyed the fun, as they went back in time and to the depths of their grey matter, in an attempt to try and give a presentable performance.

The Provincial Grand Master was joined by his wife Sue, together with the Provincial Grand Master from the Craft, Right Worshipful Brother Nicholas Ball together with his wife Gill. He was also joined by the two Past Provincial Grand Masters, namely Right Worshipful Brothers Peter Hawken and Peter Balsom, together with their wives.

  

The evening commenced as a jazz trio played in the bar as the gentleman, who had all scrubbed up well in their refinery, and the ladies looking radiant in their evening dresses, assembled for the gala ball and meal. During the meal a mystery draw, compared by our Provincial Grand Tyler, Worshipful Brother Paul Trewin, was held with £400 worth of prizes, including a 40" TV, a massive hamper and a coffee machine. The lucky winners of these star prizes were Worshipful Brothers Brian Martin and Paul Watson, together with Mr Lesley Shepard.

    

Following the wonderful banquet, the brethren and their guests relaxed and enjoyed the atmosphere as another local band, more specifically an ABBA Tribute band, performed. It gave the opportunity for all the brethren to go back in time and dance the night away.

Thanks from all those attended go to Worshipful Brother John Hipwell, together with his wife Sally for organising this year’s event, which once again was not only popular and enjoyed by everyone who attended, but again showed the friendship and happiness that is spread throughout the wonderful degree of Mark Masonry.
