Worshipful Brother Brett Varker, the Assistant Provincial Grand Master and the Worshipful Master of the Devon Mark Rugby Lodge 958, recently organised a member’s social event, the first since the Lodges creation in May last year.

A total of 35 brethren, partners and guests met on the chilly morning in the Grand Hotel, Torquay, for some pre meal drinks and coffees. The location was chosen for ease of travel, with many choosing the train option, travelling from areas all over the Province. The event even attracted a couple of prospective candidates, who were considering joining the Mark Degree.

The meal, consisting of either a two or three course dinner, was held in one of the private dining rooms and was very well delivered by the Chef and team at the Hotel.

After the meal, everyone left the hotel to walk the 100M to the local Torquay Rugby Stadium, with the remainder of the afternoon was spent watching a great game of rugby between the local team, Torquay Athletic RFC, and the visiting team from Withycombe RFC based in Exmouth. The atmosphere was filled with fun and enjoyment, with a stand and clubhouse full of supporters.

The match, which showed some great attacking rugby and tactics from both teams, was sadly a one-sided affair as far as the score was concerned, with Torquay Athletic winning 66-0.

Following the match, the brethren congregated in the clubhouse for a last get together, before making their way home, after what can only be described as a fun-filled and successful day out for all.
