The Provincial Grand Master, Right Worshipful Brother David Charles Purdie, attended the recent installation ceremony at the Fidelity Huish Lodge of Mark Master Masons 91 in Oreston, near Plymouth. He was accompanied on this occasion by a host of Grand officers including Right Worshipful Brother John P. Clendinning, the Past Deputy Provincial Grand Master, Very Worshipful Brother Martin Smith, the Provincial Chaplain, Worshipful Brother’s David Eldridge, the Grand Inner Guard and Robert Palmer, Grand Steward and the Provincial Grand Secretary. It was also a pleasure to see the attendance of Worshipful Brother Nicholas A. Ball, the Provincial Grand Master in the Craft and the Most Excellent Grand Superintendent. They were further joined by a number of Provincial Grand Officers, both Present and past, including both of the Provincial Grand Wardens, namely Worshipful Brother’s Barry Purdy and Robert Hendy, together with Worshipful Brother’s Andrew Hall, Provincial Master Overseer and Robert Truesdale, the Provincial Grand Senior Overseer.

The first labour for the evening was for the lodge to undertake their installation ceremony. The Worshipful Master, Worshipful Brother Brian Elms, installed his successor, Worshipful Brother Peter Killips in an excellent ceremony, who went on to appoint and invest his team of officers for the year.

The main event of the evening then took place, which was to celebrate 50 years of service to Mark Masonry by one of the members of the lodge. Worshipful Brother Maurice Eglington was advanced into the Fidelity Huish Lodge in July 1974 and has enjoyed a wonderful time within the lodge. He progressed through the offices and firstly became the Worshipful Master in 1986, and then again in 1994. In 1990, Maurice was honoured with his first appointment to Provincial Grand Steward, and then a promotion to Past Provincial Grand Organist the following year. In 1999, he was promoted to Past Provincial Grand Junior Warden and then in 2002 he was honoured with an appointment to Past Grand Standard Bearer.

After the Provincial Grand Master had delivered a speech of his service and background, he was then presented with his 50 Year Grand Lodge and Provincial Grand Lodge certificates.

  

After thanking the brethren for the lovely evening, the business of the meeting was concluded, and the brethren retired to the refectory to enjoy an excellent festive board amongst great company.
