"With sadness the Province announces the sad passing of Ray a few days after this event -- may he now Rest In Peace"
The Provincial Grand Master, Right Worshipful Brother David Charles Purdie, visited the home of one of the Brethren of the St John Lodge of Mark Master Masons 50 recently. He was joined by the Deputy Provincial Grand Master, Worshipful Brother John P. Clendinning, and other brethren from his lodge, together with a member of his Royal Ark Mariners lodge.
The purpose of this visit was to present Worshipful Brother Raymond Day with his 50 Year Certificate of Service to Mark Masonry and his Provincial Royal Ark Mariner Grand Rank Collarette. Ray has been sadly unable to attend recent meetings, and the PGM felt that this would be a perfect way for him to celebrate with some friends.
Worshipful Brother Raymond Day was advanced into the St John Lodge of Mark Master Masons 50 on the 19th of December 1974, and after progressing through offices, became the Worshipful Master in October 1985. In 1989 he was recognised with his first Provincial Appointment as a Provincial Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies. Subsequent promotions followed culminating with his promotion to Past Provincial Grand Junior Warden in 2005.
In December 1999, Ray was elevated into the True Love and Unity Lodge of the Ancient and Honourable Fraternity of Royal Ark Mariners and became the Worshipful Commander in 2007. This year, at the annual meeting of the Province of Devonshire, the Provincial Grand Master recognised his service by appointing him with Provincial Royal Ark Mariner Grand Rank.
Ray enjoyed the visit and company of the brethren, sharing some laughs and jokes with them in his normal style, before being presented with his citation, certificate and collarette.
A wonderful achievement by a dedicated Mark Master Mason.
