The Provincial Grand Master, Right Worshipful Brother David C. Purdie, was joined by many brethren, their families and friends for the auspicious Mark Ball 2024, which was held at the Livermead Cliff Hotel in Torquay.

During the Friday afternoon, many of the guests arrived and met in the hotel lounge to enjoy the company of those who they may not have seen for some time. The evening then continued with a lovely evening meal, followed by a live group who played music through the remainder of the night.

The following day after breakfast, whilst many went out for a walk in the brisk sea air, or were taken shopping by those nearest and dearest, some remained at the hotel and took part in the Annual Provincial Mark Quiz. This year the prize was Afternoon Tea for 4 at the Livermead Cliff Hotel, and was won by Worshipful Brother Paul Stevenson, his wife Marilyn, and their friends John and Anne Mills.

As with any competition, there is always a team that could not make the grade, and they were awarded the 2024 Spam trophy. This years lucky recipients were Very Worshipful Brother Bill Daw and his good lady Ursula. The excuse being that they felt that is was better to let others win, rather than admitting a gap in knowledge.

The Saturday evening was a glamourous black tie event, which saw the men scrub up, with the ladies looking resplendent as always in their evening gowns and dresses.

  

Following the wonderful 4 course meal, the Provincial Grand Master thanked the staff of the hotel, and in particular the chef and his team for creating such a great weekend for everyone. The Head Chef then shared a toast with our Provincial Grand Master with applause from those present.

The evenings entertainment was provided by the live group "Men Behaving Badly", who played rock songs from various eras, allowing many of the guests to demonstrate their moves on the dance floor.

  

Contrary to rumours circulating during the evening, no new boy bands were being formed that night.
