The Provincial Grand Master, Right Worshipful Brother David Charles Purdie, accompanied by holders of Royal Ark Mariner Grand and Provincial Grand Rank, joined brethren at the Benevolent Lodge of Royal Ark Mariners 316 in Teignmouth to celebrate their 50 years jubilee.
The lodge was opened in fine form by the Commander, Worshipful Brother Norrie Millen, who then handed over the sceptre of the lodge to the Provincial Grand Master to undertake the celebration business of the evening.
Following an address to the brethren, the Provincial Grand Secretary, Worshipful Brother Chris Elliott read the Warrant of the lodge in his usual eloquent manner. This was then followed by a short but very interesting history of the Lodge, which was compiled and presented by Worshipful Brother Chris Sidwell.

The Provincial Grand Chaplain, Worshipful Brother Martin Smith, then narrated the Oration and prayer for the evening, followed by the Provincial Secretary reading the citation and commemorative Warrant.

The Provincial Grand Master then presented the Citation and Warrant to Worshipful Brother Millen, who then resumed his position in the chair of Noah. The lodge brethren came together for a commemorative photograph.

The Provincial Grand Master also made some surprise presentations at the meeting, by presenting Very Worshipful Brother Alastair Duncan and Worshipful Brother Basil Pelmear (pictured below) with their Grand Patron collarettes, in recognition of their contributions to the Mark Benevolent Fund.

After the lodge was closed, 44 Brethren retired to the refectory, where an excellent festive board including Lamb Shanks was provided by the caterers, before the speeches and toasts. The atmosphere throughout was full of happiness and enjoyment, and was a wonderful celebration of 50 years of the Royal Ark Mariners in Teignmouth
