Within hours of the news of the devastating earthquake in Italy, the Trustees of the Mark Benevolent Fund made £25,000 available to the Grand Master of the Mark District in Italy, R.W.Bro. Fabio Venzi.
In a letter from Mark Grand Lodge, the Deputy Grand Secretary, V.W.Bro. Ryan Williams, P.G.J.O., wrote:
Dear Right Worshipful Brother Venzi
I write on behalf of the Most Worshipful Grand Master, His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent, GCVO, and the Rulers of the Mark Degree, to express the deep shock and sadness felt on hearing the news of the earthquake which struck central Italy in the early hours of this morning.
As your nation begins to come to terms with the loss of life and devastation caused by the earthquake, we extend our heartfelt sympathy to you, the Brethren of the District and their families and hope for better times ahead.
The Trustees of the Mark Benevolent Fund have agreed an Emergency Relief Grant of £25,000 to be dispersed by you for the immediate relief of Brethren and their families affected by this disaster. The funds will be transferred as soon as possible.
With fraternal regards and best wishes.
Once again proving that in times of need the Mark Degree and the Mark Benevolent Fund can act without hesitation.
